The Nationals on TV

It looks like Peter Angeleos will get his way, at least partly.
Major League Baseball : Official Info : Press Release: "Major League Baseball and the Baltimore Orioles have reached agreement concerning certain measures which will protect the Orioles from any adverse effects caused by the relocation of the Montreal Expos, who will begin play in a few days as the Washington Nationals, it was announced today."

Unexpected Expense

I got a call this week that the heat pump at out rental property is not working and needs to be replaced. It was not a huge surprise because the unit is probably 20 years old, but it is still not something that you like to hear. In the past I would have gotten really irritated about this, but for some reason it is not bothering me too much this time.

In addition I got the tax returns form the accountant yesterday. Uncle gets his pound of flesh.

Indonesian Earthquake

This is what today's earthquake in the Andaman sea looked like on a seismograph at Mt Rainier in Washington State. Basically the other side of the world. (Click image to enlarge)

Easter Monday

Today feels a lot more like winter than early spring. It is misty and foggy and cool outside. Yesterday felt more like November than Easter Sunday. It is hard to get back to work this morning for some reason. I think I am not ready for the weekend to be over. It went so quickly.

In the last 4 or 5 days Seth has begun to be able to sit on his own. He can maintain a siting position for minutes at a time now. His balance has improved dramatically, you can see his little legs working as he adjusts to stay up.

Holy Saturday

Holy Saturday is always a bit of a strange day. Stuck between Good Friday and Easter Sunday it is a day of waiting and filling time. In the church the sanctuary candle is unlit and the tabernacle is open to show that, on this day, Jesus was not with us on earth. The statues are covered in mourning until the Easter Vigil this evening when the resurrection is celebrated. Tomorrow all will be right in the world again, but today, we wait.

Low Atmospheric Pressure

We are having a rainy day. I feel like it's a rainy day. It must be the low pressure. Even my computer seems to be dragging its feet (if it has any). I think I'll make a cup of tea.

Delorean

John Delorean, died on Saturday from complications of a stroke. He was 80 years old. Co-incidentally I saw a Delorean car at Great Falls Park in MD on Saturday afternoon. I wonder if the owner had it out for a drive as a tribute? The car is beginning to look a little dated, but the style holds up resonably well after more than 20 years.

When I pointed the car out to Debbie she immediately said "Back to the Future."

Dinner At Home

We had dinner with the parents this evening. Fr. Reid was there, which always makes for interesting conversation.

More Learning

I think Seth is discovering his voice. Over the last couple of days he has started making all sorts of new sounds: sqeals, coos, shouts, rising and falling pitches. He has been chuckling and laughing for some time. I never thought about how we have to learn to control our voices, but that seems to be what this is about. He's trying everything he can think of. He is also watching the effect these noises have on Mom and Dad. Do they smile do they laugh?

How to get things done

When we were in NJ this weekend I saw a clever solution to a difficult problem. The town where Beth lives needed a cell tower, but, because of the town's quasi-rural appearance, a normal tower would likely not have gotten approved without a huge fight from the residents. So what did they do? The cell company built a cell tower that looks like a silo. Granted, it is the tallest silo you've ever seen, but I would guess that most people don't realize it is a cell tower. I would guess that the cost of the silo was very close to the cost of a monopole tower, so it was likely a good solution for every one.

Getting Away

We are going to visit the Youngs again this weekend. It always seems that the day you want to get out of the office early there is a ton of stuff to do. Time is relative. When you have the least to work with is when it passes the most quickly.

Yesterday was sort of a long day at work. It was not difficult, but it just seemed to go on forever. By the time I got home I was worn out. After playing with Seth for a while (and getting a good dinner) I felt much better. Funny how that works...

Mount St. Helens - Eruption 3/8/2005

CVO Menu - Mount St. Helens - Eruption 2004, 2005:
Plume from the Sugar Bowl Remote Camera.

A small, short-lived explosive event at Mount St. Helens volcano began at approximately 5:25 p.m. PST, March 8, 2005. Airplane pilot reports indicate that the resulting steam-and-ash plume reached an altitude of about 36,000 feet above sea level within a few minutes and drifted downwind to the northeast. The volcano's rim stands at 8,325 feet.

Dinner With Friends

Tonight we had dinner with John and Pam. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Seth behaved quite well at the restaurant. He did get a little tired toward the end, but that is because it was getting to be his bed time.

In other news, the Nationals beat the Orioles in their first meeting at spring training in Florida.

Friday Morning

This morning I am feeling like I am ready for the weekend. That is kind of unusual for me. I typically don't mind working, but I am so ready for this week to be done right now. I guess it has been a little busy. I am also irritated at some things going on inside the company that are just dumb. It's nothing major, but we seem to be finding ways to make thing more complicated than they need to be, which really bothers me.
